Digital for Life Movement Propels Digital Inclusivity in Singapore

“The Digital for Life movement was launched in February last year, at a critical juncture when the importance of digital inclusion was brought to fore. The DfL movement is a thriving community of like-minded individuals and organisations that continues to grow from strength to strength. In less than two years, our network has expanded to over 130 partners. Collectively, we have driven about 140 ground-up projects to uplift digital literacy, promote cyber wellness and overall, to help Singaporeans to embrace digitalisation.” – Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information, 4 November 2022

Youths are the key driving force for DfL movement

As emerging tech continues to grow, IMDA is equipping youths for the digital future through foundational skills such as computational thinking and coding, and exposing them to projects tackling real world problems with tech solutions. One such example is the partnership between IMDA and tech and media CCAs of schools, where more than 300 secondary school and junior college students had the opportunity to learn about emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence from industry giant Amazon Web Services.

Youths are key to driving and leading positive change in the community through technology and volunteering. From July 2020 to 2022, youth volunteers from Youth Corps Singapore have held digital learning workshops at senior activity centres to help seniors learn basic digital literacy and cyber safety awareness skills. Collectively, Youth Corps volunteers have put in over 3,600 hours to help about 1,800 seniors pick up basic digital skills.

Beneficiaries’ lives enriched through digital

Through the Digital Enablement Programme supported by IMDA with Microsoft, SG Enable and SPD, persons with disabilities are equipped with digital skills, thus bridging the digital divide. In addition, the Data for All initiative enables seniors to have digital access to perform basic online functions such as messaging and banking functions on their smartphone devices.

More People-Private-Public (3P) Partners Championing DfL Causes

Since its launch in February 2021, about $10.25 million has been raised and more than 130 partners have joined the Digital for Life movement to drive approximately 140 projects to strengthen digital literacy, inclusion, and wellness. More than 270,000 Singaporeans have enriched their lives through these digitalisation efforts.

Digital for Life Appreciation Dinner

These achievements were celebrated at the Digital for Life Appreciation Dinner on 4 November 2022 which recognised partners’ contribution in building a digitally inclusive Singapore. More than 200 partners received tokens of appreciation from the Guest-of-Honour, Minister for Communications and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo, as well as from IMDA Chief Executive Mr Lew Chuen Hong.
