MakeIT at Libraries is an NLB initiative that lets everyone learn about and try new technologies that can bring your ideas to life. Use 3D printing, digital cutting, robotics, and other forms of tech-based fabrication to make computer-accurate and complex items that may not be possible by hand. We provide complete facilities and guidance for anyone to come and try their hand at these technologies, including our range of easy-to-understand Starter workshops where no expertise or experience is required.

Learn about these ways of using technology to create and fabricate:

  • 3D Printing: Learn to create and edit 3-dimensional virtual designs, and ‘print’ them out into actual physical items by using 3D printing machines.

  • Digital Cutting: Create complex shapes with high accuracy using digital cutter machines to cut paper, wood, and other sheet materials with computerised precision.

  • Robotics & Coding: Use robotic kits and microcontrollers to create commands for a smart robot. No coding experience required.

  • Sewing: Use electric sewing machines beyond basic fabric work, and integrate technology for digital wearables with LEDs, sensors and more.

All workshops and materials are available for free for NLB members.
